Song Lyrics- A Silent Cry

Hi All, I have been working on a new song for a while called ‘A Silent Cry’. The song is basically about a father who lost his child to abortion. The song begins at the 2 year anniversary of the death of his child he never knew.
The song was inspired by a conversation I overheard from my wife and her mom after they had gone to a meeting in Killarney held by an organization called Rachael’s Vineyard. During the conversation I heard them talk of a man who wept as he gave a talk on abortion. After the conversation I didn’t think anymore of it until the following week. I came down for breakfast, poured milk on my cornflakes and by the time I had finished the bowl I had written the song. It was that fast! I have tweaked it here and there a little since and got great help from Noel O’Sullivan with the musical arrangement. At the moment I have not recorded the final version but I thought I would give you a read of how the song goes lyrically. All comments welcome.
A Silent Cry – by Paul O’Shea.
It’s been 2 years now since you went away,
It breaks my heart that I’ve never seen you face,
It kills me inside to think what I’ve missed in you.
It wasn’t your choice to meet your fate,
Regrets her decision but it’s much too late,
I wonder who you’d look like,
If you were here today?
What’s your favourite colour? who’s your favourite author?,
I don’t even know you, I am your father,
I didn’t get the chance to welcome you to this world,
I feel all this pain I carry all this shame,
There was nothing I could do to get you through this,
It kills me inside to think what could have been.
Your first kiss you’ll never experience,
Or that first love that drives you delirious,
You’ll never get married, have kids of your own,
You never grow old in the company of friends,
Surrounded by love until the very end,
I wonder if you know my love for you,
Will never die.
What’s your favourite colour? who’s your favourite author?,
I don’t even know you, I am your father,
I didn’t get the chance to welcome you to this world,
I feel all this pain I carry all this shame,
There was nothing I could do to get you through this
It kills me inside to think what could have been.
I pray that you’ll forgive me,
And God will keep you safe,
That one day he’ll permit me,
To finally see your face,
I’ve never seen your face…
Instrumental (orchestral)
What’s your favourite colour? who’s your favourite author?,
I don’t even know if your my son or my daughter,
I didn’t get the chance to welcome you to this world,
I feel all this pain I carry all this shame,
There was nothing I could do to get you through this,
It kills me inside to think what could have been,
To think what could have been, to think what could have been.

Hi Paul,i read these lyrics a couple of times, they are very moving, its refreshing to look at abortion from a man’s perspective. …powerful stuff…! lines like ‘I don’t even know you, I am your father’ bring to mind a clip I saw on youtube titled ‘woman at the well’. Its a monologue which speaks about how to be known is to be loved and how Jesus really knows us all, knows everything about us…God bless.
